I just found your Substack and am so glad I did! I’m a physician who writes about human sexuality but I often feel constrained by the propriety required as a medical professional. I paywall most of my edgier content for that reason. I envy the freedom you have to share your thoughts.
I’m a member of the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health and the International Society of Sex Medicine. The topic of Sex Surrogacy came up at the spring conference this year and many ears perked up at the mention of surrogacy as a therapeutic modality. I’ll be giving a talk on sex work through an international lens at next year’s spring conference and will absolutely touch on this niche.
As a licensed therapist, I also envy the freedom that you have to share some of these things. The only rule we were not allowed to question or discuss in counseling school was never, ever, under any circumstances have sex with your client. It used to be a practice though that clinicians utilized as recently as the 60’s. Your piece makes me reconsider whether or not there could have been some benefit to sex work with a therapist. Would look different today, and it sounds like having a separate surrogate vs therapist is the ethical work around for some people. Nevertheless, this is an incredibly radical and thought provoking piece of writing. Thank you for sharing!
I just found you on substack - I really like the content, the articles you write. So thought provoking.
I've never heard of surrogate partners in this manner. I think many in Incel community would benefit. LOL
I watched a documentary a few years back about a woman that took her handicapped adult son to Amsterdam for sex with a prostitute because it's legal. It made perfect sense to me, just because he's in a wheelchair doesn't mean he has any less sexual desires than the rest of us. Sex makes the world go 'round.......
What a lovely initiation into this world of surrogacy. It reminds me of the scene from HER where Joaquin Phoenix has a surrogate as a way to connect intimately with his beloved OS.
Sarah, oooh!! (Also apologies I’m just now getting back to you)- now you’ve got me thinking about AI’s and surrogates, and if those will be a legit practice in the future. Hiring a surrogate to actualize your intimate AI connection.
I first heard of surrogates as a teenager some fifty years ago purusing Penthouse magazine, you know, for the articles. "love doesn't get routed toward life building". Sounds a lot like non-manqagogamy. A subject dear to my heart as married man of thirty-five years.
I think I actually heard about that article in the book I'm reading! The title of the article was "Substitute Teachers" and one of the surrogates was inspired to pursue training after reading it.

I have a very good friend who is in a surrogate - and calls that being a 'Life Coach'
Hey John! Apologies I’m just now getting back. Is your friend a professional surrogate partner who goes by “life coach” to avoid scrutiny?
No - she is straight forward in what she does and avoids clients in certain states.
